  1. Formation: Cultured pearls are created through a process called pearl culturing, where a pearl farmer implants a nucleus or irritant into a mollusk, such as an oyster or mussel. The mollusk then secretes nacre (mother-of-pearl) around the irritant, forming layers over time to create a pearl.

  2. Color: Cultured pearls come in a variety of colors, including white, cream, pink, peach, lavender, black, and gold. The color of a cultured pearl depends on the type of mollusk, water quality, and environmental factors during cultivation.

  3. Luster: Cultured pearls exhibit a lustrous surface due to the layers of nacre formed over the nucleus. High-quality pearls have a reflective, mirror-like luster, while lower-quality pearls may appear dull or chalky.

  4. Size: Cultured pearls vary in size, ranging from tiny seed pearls measuring less than 1 millimeter to larger pearls measuring over 20 millimeters in diameter. Pearl size is influenced by the type of mollusk and the length of time the pearl is allowed to grow.

  5. Shape: Cultured pearls come in various shapes, including round, near-round, oval, button, drop, and baroque (irregular). Round pearls are the most desirable and valuable, while other shapes may be more affordable.

  6. Surface: Cultured pearls may have surface imperfections such as spots, blemishes, or irregularities. These imperfections are natural and contribute to the uniqueness of each pearl.

  7. Origin: Cultured pearls are produced in pearl farms located in various regions worldwide, including Japan, China, Tahiti, Australia, and the Philippines. Different regions produce pearls with unique characteristics in terms of color, size, and quality.
